- 01 Arrival in Auckland
Auckland city of sails and dormant volcanoes: Auckland War Memorial Museum with it’s interesting exhibition on Maori culture. The historic suburb of Parnell, Town Centre, panoramique city views from the summit of Mount Eden.
02 Auckland Matakohe
Direction north : visit the Kauri museum in Matakohe.
03 Matakohe Far North
Ancient Kauri forests for Trounson Park and Waipoua Tane Mahuta (the King of the Forest). Opononi, then cross Hokianga Harbour on a small car ferry. Kaitaia, and the start of 90 Mile Beach.
04 Far North Bay of Islands
Magnificent day trip to the northern most point of the country, where the Pacific and the Tasman Seas meet. Maori legend says that it is at this spot that the spirits of the dead launch themselves off the cliff on the start of their voyage back to Hawaiiki, their ancestral land. Continuation down the east coast with it’s wonderful beaches to the Bay of Islands.
05 Bay of Islands
Hole in the Rock cruise with a stop on one of the many Islands in the Bay. Trip to Waitangi Treaty house, where the controversial Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840 by the Europeans and the Maori signalling the beginning of the nation.
06 Bay of Islands - Auckland
Whangarei: waterfalls and the Clapham old clock museum.
Return to Auckland where people taking the 16 day option join the tour.

07 Auckland - Rotorua
Rotorua, heart of the the lakes district of the North Island (around. 15 lacs), and an area of important geothermic activity. Ohinemutu, Whakarewarewa, (geysers et Maori Arts and Craft Institute). Maori hangi and concert in the evening.
08 Rotorua
Agrodome sheep show where you will discover 19 varieties of sheep that you can find in New Zealand. Rainbow or Fairy Springs (trout, kiwis, flora and fauna). Afternoon : free time with may options available such as a scenic flight over the area or a visit to Mt Tarawera.
09 Rotorua Mangaweka
En route for Taupo crossing the thermal areas surrounding Rotorua. Huka falls, and then Lake Taupo, New Zealand’s biggest lake. Continuation to Tongariro National Park a vast plateau boasting 3 volcanoes.
10 Mangaweka - Wellington
Wellington, the capital city: spectacular views from the summit of Mount Victoria. Old Saint Paul’s Church and the Beehive (Parliament buildings).
11 Wellington - Kaiteriteri
Cook straight crossing between Wellington and Picton by ferry through the Marlborough Sounds. Take the Queen Charlotte Drive to Nelson, famous for it’s fruit, wine and crafts. Continuation on to Kaiteriteri
12 Parc National Abel Tasman
Day trip in Abel Tasman National Park. Cruise and Walk (5.5h)
13 Kaiteriteri - Hokitika
The West Coast with a stop at Cape Foulwind to see the Seal colony. Punakaiki Pancake Rocks.
14 Hokitika Franz Josef
Hokitika, the jade capital. Franz Josef & Fox Glaciers. Short walks to the base of the glaciers and in the surrounding forest areas.
15 Franz Josef - Wanaka
Walk around Lake Matheson (the mirror lake). Walks along the wild and beautiful beaches of the West Coast. Cross the imposing Haast Pass and on to tranquil lake Wanaka via Mount Aspiring National Park.
16 Wanaka - Te Anau
Stop at the tourist capital of the South Island, Queenstown. Free time: try jet boating on the Shotover River, or cruise on an old Steamship on Lake Wakatipu, or just wander around the town. On the way to Te Anau stop in the Kawarau gorge to see the home of bungy.
17 Te Anau
An early start to reach the famous Milford Sound. Milford Sound Nature Cruise. Short walks in the surrounding area, forests, lakes and waterfalls. Visit the local bird sanctuary where you can see the very rare Takahe.
18 Te Anau - Dunedin
Corss the bottom half of the island to reach the scottish influenced town of Dunedin. Take a historic train ride through the Taieri Gorge.
19 Dunedin
Visit Larnach Castle and the Otago Peninsula, home to a wide variety of marine birdlife. Free time in the afternoon.
20 Dunedin Twizel
Moeraki Boulders strange rock formations embedded in the sand, Maori legend says that they were food baskets lost on the beach when the canoe carrying them sank. Oamaru, a small Otago town, home to a yellow eyed penguin colony. Travel inland along side the Waitaki Valley and it’s three dams until Mount Cook National Park. Free time to walk around the park and admire the summit of Mount Cook and it’s numerous glaciers (weather permitting).
21 Twizel - Christchurch
Cross the Canterbury plains to arrivie in Christchurch the most ‘English’ city in the country situated on the Avon River. Canterbury Museum known for it’s Antarctica exhibition, Christchurch Cathedral, the botanic gardens and strolling around the town.
22 Départ de Christchurch
The tour ends after breakfast.
Free time. Supershuttle transfers to Christchurch airport for your departure flight.
